As part of developing micro-electromechanical
tactile stimulators and arrays in collaboration with Kaigham Gabriel at
Carnegie Mellon University, we will determine the limits of perceptual resolution
for vibratory tactile stimulation at selected skin sites. These measurements
represent a significant advance in the fundamental understanding of human touch
and will guide the design of the MEMS actuator arrays. The figure shows the
Tactile Perception Test Apparatus that we are building to perform the experiments.
